Review: Georgie starts school today, and we have been preparing for this “momentous” occasion with Monkey’s Guide to Starting School, from Monkey Wellbeing. Monkey Wellbeing have a whole range of packs to help your child through the changes and challenges of growing up.

The pack includes a small story book about the Monkey character attending primary school, with activities and interactions of a typical school day. This A5 book contains 20 pages of reassuring photos and text for your child to read in the lead up to their new school, and during their first month while they are still settling in.

There is also an activity guide with areas for your child to draw pictures about their new day, place stickers like “my new friends are brill” and “my teacher is great!” It also includes some counting and alphabet pages. The pack includes crayons to use with the guide. This guide is for use once your child has already started at school, as it asks questions about your child’s new school.
Last, but not least, the pack includes a certificate to fill out and give to your child after their first day of school – how sweet is that? What a lovely way to commemorate this important milestone in your child’s life!

At the back of the guide, you can find some helpful tips to parents to manage the transition into school-life, and so the pack goes a way towards reassuring worried parents as well as children. The pack as a whole is great for educating your family about modern primary school life, and reassuring everyone about this next step.

At £5.50 I think this pack is great value – for that money you get the story book, activity book, pack of crayons, 16 stickers to go in the activity guide, and the certificate. The Monkey character is fun and likeable, and the text is written in a very approachable way.
