Preparing for primary school

It still seems a bit crazy that Georgie will be starting primary school in September.

We need to buy uniform, bags, name labels/stamps, and I mustn’t forget her PE kit and some new black shoes. I wish the school had given us a list of everything we need to send her in with on the first day – I think I will need to get in touch with them as I’m not sure about the little things, like water bottles.

Georgie was trying on uniform in Asda last week and it made her look so much older that her usual casual clothes. They have a fairly relaxed policy so she can wear whatever grey or black trousers or skirts she likes, and a plain white polo shirt under a school cardigan or jumper. Good for us, as it means we can get the majority of her uniform at the supermarket.

She has been to three one-hour settling in sessions at the school, and loved it. After the first one, she went off happily with her lovely new teacher, and didn’t even stop to say goodbye. I’m pretty sure she didn’t really want to go home afterwards, either!

Georgie is excited that the school is so close to our house – her walk to school is going to be around 200 metres, compared to the mile she walks home from preschool at the moment. There is a lovely sense of community and friendliness about the school, and I think Georgie really picks up on it.

There have been quite a few pronouncements along the lines of “my new school is better than my old school” so hopefully it is going to go well in September! She starts on the 7th and goes straight into full days, so we’ll be thrown straight into our new routine. Fingers crossed!
